Adam McDonald

Deep Muskoka Roots. A Lifetime of Building Excellence.

Adam’s connection to Muskoka runs deep. With family roots in Foot’s Bay dating back to the early 1900s, he has developed an intimate knowledge of the region and a profound appreciation for its lakes, landscapes, and communities.

With more than 36 years of construction experience, Adam began his career at age 16, building crib docks. He progressed into large-scale framing and crew supervision before pursuing Construction Engineering. Adam later moved into project management, where he spent several years overseeing complex custom construction projects throughout the Muskoka lakes.

Coming from a long line of builders, Adam’s commitment to integrity, craftsmanship, and hard work is deeply rooted. His extensive construction experience, local knowledge, and desire to deliver exceptional work ultimately led him to establish McDonald Custom Builders.

Katherine McDonald

Active Principal Owner

Corporate Expertise. The Foundation Behind MCB’s Success.

Katherine brought extensive corporate project-management experience to McDonald Custom Builders, helping turn a shared vision into a successful custom construction company.

During her 10 years with IBM, Katherine earned the respect of high-profile clients while working as a Delivery Project Manager. Her responsibilities included critical-path planning, coordinating equipment installations, and managing complex, multilayered service-level agreements for national retail and banking organizations.

After marrying Adam in 2002, Katherine moved from Markham to Muskoka, where she applied her organizational expertise, strategic planning skills, and client-focused approach to the growing business. Her experience has been instrumental in establishing the systems, service standards, and operational discipline behind MCB’s delivery of high-end custom cottages and boathouses.

Our Crew

The majority of our crew have been with us from the very beginning.

Our core group of 24 is comprised of licensed carpenters, carpenter apprentices and labourers. The majority of our crew have been with us from the very beginning. We take pride in hiring local individuals whose values and work ethic match those of our own.
